History
A market town on a river crossing that became a town, around a bridge, a market hall and a station.
The stone bridge over the Verdane is recorded in the fourteenth century; the market hall dates from 1908; the arrival of the railway in 1874 turned the market town into a small town. The hillsides were covered in vines until the early twentieth century.
A town is first of all people crossing paths on a bridge.
